Synopsis

HOME- definition -n- the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered; adv-deep; to the heart ♥ ; v. to navigate toward a point by means of coordinates other than those given by altitudes.

H.O.M.E. - as an acronym it can be interpreted as wherever you call home. Some might say it’s "wherever you lay your head at night" and that definition may or may not be odds with the dictionary, but it may still be correct. The word HOME has many meanings to many people. Hence the title of our film, H.O.M.E., as an acronym.

2017 Nominee for Best U.S. Latino Film at the Cinema Tropical Awards, H.O.M.E., is a "love letter" to New York City woven of two stories & through its subways & enclaves. One is of a missing young man with Asperger’s Syndrome who seeks refuge in the underground labyrinth of NYC. The other follows a gambling Ecuadorian livery driver & a Chinese woman desperate to get home to her sick child. Along each of their journeys through the urban landscape, they discover the deeper understanding of communication & their intimate connections despite their barriers. 

H.O.M.E. is an understated yet lyrical exploration of urban alienation & meaningful encounters through the lens of a “disconnected” city in constant motion. 

From the Producer of TANGERINE  and THE FLORIDA PROJECT, comes the anticipated feature length debut from award winning writer/director Daniel Maldonado  starring  Ariel Award winner Jesus Ochoa, Imagen Award Winner, Jeremy Ray Valdez and Broadway's emerging, Angela LIn.

H.O.M.E. is a feature film about the human condition, comprised of two different but related stories involving characters who have intimate and meaningful encounters through the lens of a disconnected and alienating city. Filmed mostly in a town car & subways of New York City, the characters in these stories find themselves in an internal struggle with their environment and proceed to navigate through their path of understanding.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Inspired by actual events, “D, F & #1” is a lyrical portrait of a young man with Asperger’s Syndrome. The young man, Danny Perez, leaves home and journeys through NYC's labyrinth-like subway system in search of autonomy despite the city wide search for him. Through his observations, he discovers a subterranean world which proves unaffected, where encounters and connections are amiss among the multitude. 

“The Passenger” focuses intimately on the rare emotional connections we make and their importance. Employing traditional narrative techniques, but peppered in allegory, the story involves Gabriel, an older and lonely, Ecuadorian livery car driver from Queens and his random encounter with Sze Wun, a young Chinese mother who is stranded due to an MTA strike. While listening to a soccer match that Gabriel has bet “his life” upon, he offers Sze Wun a ride home to her sick child, setting the stage for the events that follow in which their bonds become revealed despite linguistic and cultural barriers.
